Cute little calculators
A bit smaller than similar inexpensive calculators, but perfectly fine for teens and adults. They seem well made. Strictly battery driven – the “solar panel” does not appear to be functional (it’s not wired to anything).The battery can be replaced if needed. It’s difficult to open the case – the split is hard to find. It’s just above the bead going around the sides, but at least it doesn’t come apart in a million pieces like some calculators I’ve opened!

Around what you’d expect for $1.50 each.
I had these 6 days before students started destroying them.What I learned from inventorying destroyed calculators and repairing them:1. The “solar panels” are just pieces of shiny plastic. They aren’t connected to anything. They’re easy to poke out. They are not real.2. These calculators are battery-powered and batteries are already installed, though the set comes with a card of an additional 8 batteries.3. The batteries are not all nested securely in the calculator. Tapping the device on its side or tossing them to a student is enough to jar the battery loose.4. The circuit board and display can come dislodged as easily as the battery.FORTUNATELY …the calculators come with a screwdriver so (provided you have the time, patience, and detail-orientation to reposition internal parts) you can easily fix them.I’m on the fence about the value. $2 each for easily breakable calculators to be used by clumsy middle-school math students seems like a bad deal while I’m at my desk fixing them, but one school lunch costs two and a half calculators, so maybe that is a good deal?Pros:Multi-color gives students incentive to fight over calculators.Comes with a screwdriver.Includes an extra battery for each in case the original falls out.Perform basic calculations.Cons:Fake solar panels.Battery falls out.

Great prizes for my 3rd grade class
I am teaching my students that there is a time and place for everything. They are working hard on their times tables, but when we have a competition test, with a calculator prize, they are NOT allowed to use calculators! When we do 3D print design, they can use them, provided they write down all their workings along the way.They are getting to know that 7 or 8 decimal places has to rounded to 2 places.
