Great product, but the description SUCKS!!!!
I had to do more research than I felt was necessary to actually figure out what I was buying and if it would work with the filter holder/filter set I bought at Wally World. So, being the nice guy that I am, I’ll post it so you can make a better informed buying decision..The 3M Filtrete 3US-PF01 is the advanced replacement filter cartridge designed to fit Filtrete Systems 3US-AS01, 3US-PS01 and Whirlpool Systems WHCF-SUF, WHCF-SUFC. This is a genuine 3M Filtrete Professional Water Filter. 54417. Replaces the old part number WHCF-SRC and WHCF-SR.The 3US-PF01 Product Specifications:Micron Rating: 0.5Capacity: 2,000 or 6 monthsFlow Rate: 2.0 GPMOperating Temp: 40-100 FOperating Pressure: 25-125 psiDimensions: 13 11/16″ x 3 3/16″No Tool Required for filter changeFiltrete Systems equipped with an internal shut-off valveNotice the “Micron Rating.” This filter does a better job than MANY reverse osmosis systems!!! .5 micron rating is ridiculously small and will astound you with how much better your coffee, icecubes, cooking water, etc. will taste. You WILL notice a drop off in your water pressure at the sink tap when you use it. I consider that to be an engineering limitation and easy to live with. When you use the hot water you’ll still have all the pressure you need.BTW, take your time when installing it. I know, if you’ve got a cramped under sink area it can get pretty claustrophobic under there. Well, suck it up, buttercup, and do it right the first time. Otherwise, you’ll be under there SEVERAL times trying to get it right. Having an attentive helper to hand you tools, etc. will definitely be a big help for you so you won’t have to slither in and out of there to get it done.Your effort will be worth it. You’ll love the way your water looks and tastes. Btw, if you have REALLY bad water, I’d recommend some type of string filter before it. One of the “whole house filters” would be a good choice. (If you’re concerned about your water quality, you should probably have one of those installed on your house anyways.) That way, you won’t be clogging up this filter prematurely with large particles.

After 3 years, no longer using Royal Berkey and only using Filtrete
I got this filtration unit three years ago along with expensive 4-filter Royal Berky system. I did an extensive research for water filtration systems and didn’t want a reverse osmosis filtration that removes naturally occurring minerals (although a few incorporate Re-Mineralization) that contribute to a good taste and health, and wastes a large portion of water to produce a fraction of drinkable water. My original plan was to double filter through Royal Berkey by using 3M Filtrete water for the purest water possible while retaining minerals. After a few months, I stopped using Royal Berkey because it required constant maintenance and Filtrete is so much more convenient and drastically improved water taste on its own with no noticeable odor from my tap. I use the filtered water for cooking, coffee/tea, drinking, pet water, aquarium, etc. The following performance data sheet info is included with the 3US-PF01 Advanced Water filter:Chlorine Taste and Odor – Avg % Reduction 97.5%Nominal Particulate Class I, ≥0.5 to < 1.0µm - Avg % Reduction 99.9%Microbial Cysts - Avg % Reduction 99.99%3M also seems to care about their product from my recent interaction with the company. I recently replaced the 3US-PS01 filter as usual but tasted chlorine for the first time in 3 years. After a week of noticing the off-putting taste especially when used for my tea/coffee, I decided to contact 3M to report the problem. Although they never heard of such issue, they decided to send me a replacement filter and asked to send back the defective filter for evaluation. The replacement filter they sent worked immediately to remove the chlorine taste and I was able to send back the defective filter through a prepaid label. I finally decided to write this review after the experience, and I'm glad the company cares enough to investigate and improve their product consistency. One thing that you may want to consider is to install a dedicated filtered water faucet after trying it. For two years, I simply installed the system as the direction indicated on my existing kitchen faucet. The installation was very easy, but my cold water pressure got affected slightly and I felt like I was wasting filtered water whenever I was doing dishes or using warm water in my sink. Also, I always had to be careful to let the faucet water run for a bit to remove the stagnant unfiltered water in the faucet path, and just a bit of the unfiltered water was enough to ruin the taste of the drinking water. After installing a dedicated filtered water faucet that I got from Amazon (I used KES Z501C), my family can access filtered water immediately and my kitchen faucet water pressure got restored. It required extra work, but the effort was totally worth it.I suppose I'm saving my dusty Royal Berkey for the zombie days to filter local stream/rain water should the need ever arise, but I'm very happy with the inexpensive Filtrete system and never thought to research for another filtration system since use. I highly recommend you give this a try.

New design improves water flow significantly. This is one of the easiest to install and replace under sink filters and you can trust 3M for accuracy in the rated performance. They are a bit expensive when you have to replace every 6 months but worlds better than Brita or other carafe style filters.

I am definitely not a plumber.

Don’t buy it!The water flow was fine in the first week or two, then it reduced significantly and you will need to replace with the new filter!

Ok first off: If you are looking for an under-counter reverse osmosis system with full flow for less than $100 bucks, then this is not for you. However: If you are looking for an inexpensive filter system that gets rid of the taste of chlorine on the cold water line in. your kitchen, this may work for you.Installation: It was easy to install in-line with the supplies in the box and the existing line going to the cold water feed. It mounts easily under the cabinet. The filter itself does not need priming or flushing prior to installation or use. It was a straight forward job to get it installed and can be accomplished by anyone who has changed a feed line on a tap or bathroom fixture.Performance: Well its almost like a Brita filter for the cold water line… It does restrict the cold water flow a bit, but not a lot and that was to be expected. I just turned down the hot water feed to match the pressure and they are still balanced. Even while operating on cold water only, the spray feature on our tap works, so there is still enough pressure.Taste: Its as clean as the water coming off the fridge. Not quite reverse osmosis level, but a noticeable enough difference in cleanliness. Our coffee and tea does not have a faint taste of chlorine. So good for drinking and cooking. That was the goal, and it works. The final comment which we cannot give now is length of service and swapping. In researching a product, we learned that the “Advanced” filter was good for 2000 Gallons, the Maximum is only good for 1500 gallons. Since the filters are interchangeable, we went with the advanced to start, and we are happy with it. Less expensive, good performance and longer life. So we will stick to that. The filter is supposed to be easily swapped when its time to change it, and considering the ease of installation I can’t see that being different. Plus, no priming and 1/4 turn to swap it. We will see. It is considerably easier to use than the filter system in our previous home. Conclusion: Does exactly what we wanted/expected and for a very reasonable price.
