Easy and Effective Way for a Beginner in Their 50s
I’m 50 and just getting back into a workout routine, and the CAP Barbell Adjustabell has been perfect for me. It’s incredibly easy to adjust weights—from lighter for warm-ups to heavier for strength training—and switching between exercises is smooth and fast thanks to the dial mechanism.The handle has a good grip, even with sweaty palms, and the compact design fits neatly in my home gym space, saving me the hassle of storing multiple dumbbells. I’ve been able to do a full range of moves, curls, presses, rows, even squats without feeling awkward. ***** Update: 6 months in with 3-5 workouts a week and these are still rockin’ like day 1! *****I couldn’t find reviews for this set of dumbbells online anywhere prior to purchasing, but I took a chance on them because I like the CAP brand, they look quite nice, and the price is very good for this amount of weight. I’m happy to say that I’m glad I took a chance on these instead of some no-name brand!Pros:- The weight selections are sequential from low to high. Some of the no-name brands I was considering had seemingly random weight orders (i.e if you want to go up 5 lbs, rotate 1 clockwise, but for 10 lbs, rotate 2 counterclockwise… which would be confusing and annoying).- The handles, when the dumbbells are docked in their holder, rotate easily but feel solid and click into place for each weight increment. When not docked, there is minimal play and they remain locked into place quite securely. I never feel like I’m holding anything but a normal dumbbell.- Regardless of how many plates you have loaded onto the handles, the dumbbells line up and slide into their base with ease. I haven’t had any failed attempts where I had to lift back up and try again. Just good engineering all around.- The handles are smooth while having a nice texture, paradoxically giving a pretty good grip while not tearing up your palms (though I wear gloves for higher weights just because).Cons:- Not really the product’s fault, but all adjustable dumbbells tend to be a bit wider than standard dumbbells. I haven’t found this to be a huge problem, I just take care not to let them hit each other side-on for fear of breaking them.Other:- I haven’t had them long enough to comment on durability, but I will be sure to update the review if there are any problems.

Love it
One star deducted because of a manufacturing flaw. One of the dumbbells couldn’t go past 7.5 pounds. The handle just refused to move no matter how hard I twisted. My really strong husband tried too. Had to figure out the mechanism of the weight changing system and experiment before realizing the problem. One of the weights had an extra piece of metal sticking out from the center hole (see pic). This was preventing the core that extends from the handle to move past it. We figured out a work around by placing that defective piece at the end of the weight plates. I labeled it as a reminder. I suppose I could get a metal file and file that area down, but that seems like too much trouble.Other than that, it is perfect for my needs. It fits my apartment because I get 10 weights in a very small footprint. Very easy to switch weights so I don’t waste time during my workout. If you are finding trouble twisting the handle to switch weights, maybe Inspect your weight plates for a similar issue to mine.Keep in mind the bottom storage panel is absolutely necessary not only to keep the weight plates in the proper position and spacing, it also triggers the safety release buttons on the dumbbell handles, without which you won’t be able to change weights.Pay a bit of attention and lift straight up when picking the dumbbell up from the panel or you’ll catch the panel and the entire panel will lift off the floor.Actually look forward to strength training days now so I can use these. The materials seem to be very high quality especially given the price. Expect I’ll get a lot of years of use from these. Really impressed with the overall value and highly recommend!!

Very handy
This is a very handy and compact way to have a complete set of dumbbells. Normally, lighter weight dumbbells are smaller than heavier ones, so these feel a bit odd, at first, when using a lower weights. But it’s the weight that counts, so no stars deducted. Internals include some plastic parts, but they seem sturdy and there is an overall feeling of quality here. They feel solid and the detents in the twist system are positive. Some say it is hard to twist the grip, but that is better than having it twist accidentally during use and letting a weight drop out onto your foot. So just consider the stiff twisting another exercise. You’re supposed to be using these to build muscles, right?

Ideal space saver for home workouts. Adjustable up to 55 lbs and very stable at every adjustable increment (no weights wobble at higher end). At some point You’ll need something bigger for serious chest/back gains but there is a lot of versatility in this unit for home setups.

After opening the box it smelled really bad like wd40 I wiped it down then I noticed a lot of oil on the handles. The dumbbell weights already had paint coming off and poorly made. The chrome part is poorly sprayed on.Update I just tested this dumbbell and played around with the weights and inside is made of plastic which can break. Then I noticed the orange lock button on the bottom of the dumbbell that is spouse to lock the dumbbells. But it jams so the weights can fall off. Both of the dumbbells in orange button jams and you have to wiggle the dumbbells around
